Daniel Spoerri is one of the most important representatives of object art, co-founder of the artist group Nouveau Réalisme and inventor of Eat-Art.
Synopsis
Daniel Spoerri makes artworks from found objects which lose their original function as soon as he integrates them into his work.
Meeting the artist in his studio, a museum of discarded things, becomes an opportunity to tie his imagery back to these objects and to his biography.
Spoerri, born Feinstein, is the son of a Romanian Jew who was deported and murdered. For the later founder of nouveau réalisme, Switzerland meant a new start. But the memories of a traumatic past carve their own trails: Salomonowitz also reveals Spoerri´s artistic practice as an attempt to confront the lost part of his family history.
