Re-interpretation of Chaplin's The Kid. Set in a claustrophobic world, it transports the classic tale into a dystopian, grotesque masquerade ball.
Synopsis
Between Chaplin's first feature-length film and Pfaffenbichler's very free re-creation of that work lies a whole century. The Kid, shot in 1920, is a tragicomic-moral tale of child abandonment and police violence.
2551.01 is all that, too - and nonetheless it is100 years removed from Chaplin's bittersweet patchwork comedy and all manner of cinematic history breaks and countless wars.
"This no-budget, rag-tag proletariat neo-silent experimental horror film achiement by Norbert Pfaffenbichler is a visually stunning work which can scarcely be put into words. The greatest sensory delight of this film, however, is its sheerly incomprehensible sets." (Critic)
