In Brazzaville, 'invisible forces' rule the world. The monk Medard tries to heal the sick victims of evil spells.
Synopsis
Between healing, faith, and accusation, the apostle Medard moves around Brazzaville. While he treats people who see themselves as victims of evil magic, suspicion grows against him. Medard is accused of practicing black magic and of being responsible for a lightning strike that resulted in the death of children.
Directors Hadrien La Vapeur and Corto Vaclav prefer to look “over the shoulder” rather than from a purely external perspective, accompanying their protagonist, who follows a traditional belief system based on the spirits of ancestors, magical beings, and spells.
“The mystical and captivating film KONGO does not judge, but takes a benevolent look at all the people filmed and leaves it up to the audience to form their own opinion about the relevance or ridiculousness of these rites and beliefs.” (Abus de Cine)
