Matthew is new in Berlin. There he meets the sexy and charismatic Matthias, and his desire for him quickly turns into a true obsession.
Synopsis
A foreign city, a new identity – Matthew has left Canada behind and is looking for a sense of belonging in Berlin. But instead of arriving in the vibrant metropolis, he remains an outsider. When he meets Matthias, a confident Berliner, a fascination develops that soon becomes an obsession. Matthew begins to imitate Matthias, changing his appearance and becoming more and more immersed in his life. When Matthias is in a coma after a motorcycle accident, Matthew sees this as his chance to transform himself completely into Matthias.
M/M by Drew Lint is a hypnotic thriller about identity, desire and obsession. In a world of pulsating neon light and driving techno music, the boundaries between reality and projection become blurred. The film plays with a minimalist aesthetic and an intense visual language that captures Matthew's gradual loss of identity in a way that is as captivating as it is disturbing.
M/M premiered at the 2018 Slamdance Film Festival before being shown at the Inside Out Film and Video Festival in Canada. The film was praised for its experimental narrative style and was named one of the ten best Canadian films of 2018 by The Globe and Mail.
