Two sisters, one embryo, many questions: Between ethics and biology, a silent war rages over guilt, fear, and the irrational evil.
Synopsis
A philosophy professor introduces her students to the concept of a dead God and questions the existence of irrational evil in human nature. Immediately afterwards, she is visited by her sister, a gynecologist who has been commissioned by the state to reduce the number of abortions in the city of X. Shortly thereafter, she performs an illegal abortion—the patient claims to be carrying the Antichrist—and takes the embryo home with her.
THE ALIENATED by Anja Kreis unfolds a metaphysical drama about guilt, control, and the dark potential of human beings. Between sisters who embody contrasting spheres of life—ethics and biology, mind and body—a maelstrom of doubt, guilt, and the incomprehensible arises. The stolen embryo becomes a symbol of an escalating inner and social conflict.
What is going on in this city? Is it the triumph of irrational evil – or a rebellion against emptiness? Anja Kreis leaves room for interpretation and forces the audience to confront their own fears. THE ALIENATED is a film about the uncanny that suddenly emerges in everyday life – radical, intelligent, and disturbingly topical.
