Who Owns the Sky

Who owns the Sky

Directed by Sabian Baumann

Trailer

Between performance and protest: activists expose the power structures of gender, capitalism, and colonial order.

Synopsis

Amidst debates about gender identities and social norms, a documentary film unfolds that illuminates the connections between gender concepts, cis-heteronormative structures, colonialism, and capitalism. Through interviews with activists from Argentina and Switzerland, as well as performances by the art activism project "die grosse um_ordnung," ("the big re_organization) the body is placed at the center of the discussion as a political instrument. The film offers an intersectional approach that examines the complexity of social attributions and their impact on individuals and communities. WHO OWNS THE SKY by Sabian Baumann premiered in October 2022 at the Hamburg International Queer Film Festival. In November of the same year, the film was awarded the prize for best documentary at the Orchid Lesbian Film Festival in Buenos Aires. In 2023, the film received the audience award for best documentary at the Pink Apple Queer Film Festival in Zurich. Other festival appearances include the Festival Transterritorial de Cine Underground in Buenos Aires, the Tampa Bay Transgender Film Festival in Florida, the Festival Mix in Mexico City, the Madrid Indie Film Festival, the KASHISH Mumbai International Queer Film Festival, the Korea Queer Film Festival in Seoul, the Out & Loud – Pune International Queer Film Festival in India, and the Luststreifen Film Festival in Basel.
