The earth lies fallow in the future, forests have turned to ash, and oxygen is in short supply. In this ecological dystopia, a 78-year-old botanist looks back on the last days of the Caldén Forest in La Pampa. Her memories intertwine with the story of a farmer who once tried to protect the last remnants of untamed nature. Between scientific melancholy and existential threat, a panorama of loss unfolds – personal, ecological, and cultural. In quiet, contemplative images, the film observes how humans and nature drift apart until, in the end, only the echo of a shared past remains. It is not just about the end of the forests, but about the end of a species that once believed it ruled the world – and destroyed it. The portrait of a woman who researched for life and a man who fought for survival coalesces into a silent indictment of forgetting. At a time when environmental disasters have long since become reality, the film asks uncomfortable questions – and reminds us of the quiet poetry of a nature that never asked permission to exist. The film was shown at the Semana del Cine Documental Argentino 2023, among other venues, where it received a special mention for its visual design and environmental awareness.
