Biocentrics

Directed by Ataliba Benaim, Fernanda Heinz Figueiredo

Trailer

A film about biomimicry and the people who, by choosing nature as their inspiration, place life at the center of their decisions.

Synopsis

This documentary invites us to fundamentally rethink our relationship with nature. It focuses on renowned biologist and biomimicry pioneer Janine Benyus, who shows how we can find sustainable solutions to technological and social challenges by studying natural processes. The film BIOCENTRICS (original title: BIOCÊNTRICOS) by Fernanda Heinz Figueiredo and Ataliba Benaim accompanies Benyus on her journey to various locations around the world, including Brazil, the US, Costa Rica, and Japan. There she meets people who draw inspiration from nature to develop innovative approaches in design, technology, and society. These encounters illustrate how the principle of biomimicry – learning from nature – serves as a transdisciplinary method for ensuring the continued existence of life on Earth. With impressive images and personal stories, BIOCENTRICS shows that nature should be seen not only as a resource, but as a teacher. The film calls on us to put life back at the center of our decisions and to adopt a biophilic attitude based on cooperation rather than exploitation.
