Trailer

A drama centered around a German construction manager who works with undocumented workers and an Albanian girl searching for her missing father.

Synopsis

The construction site of a luxury building project at night: ambitious site manager Lutz has hired illegal construction workers to save costs. But then a tragic accident occurs. The next day, a meeting with investors is suddenly disrupted by 14-year-old Irsa, who is looking for her father. While Lutz senses an opportunity to make a name for himself with a multi-million-dollar project, Irsa's desperation keeps driving her back to him. To keep her away from his construction site, he decides to take her away. On their journey together, a connection develops, marked by closeness and distance, guilt and responsibility. Tuna Kaptan, who has already attracted international attention with his short films, directs his feature film debut with a precise eye for the invisible between people. The camera stays close to the characters, capturing their insecurity and the silence that separates them. Between concrete, glass, and unfinished rooms, a symbolic landscape of inner alienation emerges. Filmdienst and epd Film emphasize the subtle visual language and atmospheric density with which Kaptan portrays his characters. ROHBAU celebrated its premiere at the 2023 International Hof Film Festival, where it was presented as part of the competition program. Further festival stops included the Achtung Berlin Film Festival 2024, where the film was met with a positive response. With its calm, concentrated narrative style and sensitive characterization, ROHBAU marks an important step in current German auteur cinema and confirms Tuna Kaptan as an impressive new voice in European film.
