A billionaire heiress falls under the spell of an audacious photographer, setting off a family battle over love, loyalty and money.
Synopsis
Marianne Farrère is the heiress to a cosmetics fortune and one of the world's wealthiest women. Her carefully ordered existence is shaken when she meets Pierre-Alain Fantin, an audacious photographer whose wit and extravagance fascinate her. Their unexpected closeness soon involves enormous financial gifts and alarms Marianne's daughter, turning a friendship into the centre of an escalating family conflict.
Thierry Klifa draws very freely on the real-life Banier-Bettencourt affair, fictionalising its famous battle over money, influence and family loyalty. Isabelle Huppert and Laurent Lafitte lead the cast alongside Marina Foïs, while the film moves between comedy, psychological drama and bourgeois tragedy.
LA FEMME LA PLUS RICHE DU MONDE premiered Out of Competition at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival. Behind its world of extraordinary wealth lies a family story about affection, suspicion and the question of what money can—and cannot—buy.
