Antonia, a young photographer in Corsica, navigates love, friendship, and politics from the '80s to the 21st century.
Synopsis
Antonia grows up in Corsica at a time when political tensions shape everyday life. As a young photographer, she begins to document her surroundings — friends, lovers, demonstrations, fleeting moments of youth — without fully realizing that her images are capturing the fragile portrait of a generation.
From the 1980s through the early 2000s, the island is marked by nationalist struggles, ideological divisions, and acts of violence that reverberate through families and friendships. Antonia moves between personal awakening and collective upheaval, her camera becoming both a witness and a shield. Love affairs, artistic ambitions, and political commitments intertwine, while the boundaries between intimacy and history gradually dissolve.
IN HIS OWN IMAGE (À son image) premiered at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival in the prestigious Quinzaine des Cinéastes (Directors’ Fortnight) section. Thierry de Peretti’s film was noted for its nuanced, politically attentive portrayal of Corsica’s recent history and its intimate generational perspective.
