L'acrobate

L'ACROBATE begins with a chance encounter inside a newly purchased apartment and follows Christophe, a middle-aged professional, and Micha, a Russian trapeze artist recovering on crutches after a fall. Set in Montréal amid a construction boom, their meeting soon develops into an intense relationship shaped by desire, vulnerability and uncertainty. Christophe keeps returning to the apartment he bought on impulse, and the two men meet there night after night. Isolated from the outside world during the winter, they surrender to a relationship that grows increasingly consuming. L'ACROBATE traces the fragile balance between intimacy, dependency and the fear of losing oneself in another person. Rodrigue Jean places their story within a queer perspective that explores sexuality, the body and emotional transformation. As Christophe and Micha move beyond conventional expectations, the film observes how desire can become both a source of freedom and of profound vulnerability. Micha's past as a trapeze artist lends the film a recurring image of physical fragility and suspended balance. Written and directed by Rodrigue Jean, L'ACROBATE premiered at the Vancouver International Film Festival before screening in the National Competition at the Festival du Nouveau Cinéma. Released internationally under the title The Acrobat, the film is an intimate study of desire, dependency and the search for connection.
