AÏCHA centres on Aya, a woman in her late twenties who still lives with her parents in southern Tunisia and feels trapped in a life with no clear prospects. Each day she commutes by minivan to the hotel where she works, carrying the weight of routine and frustration until one sudden crash changes everything. As the sole survivor, she sees an opening where there had only been dead ends. Rather than remain the person her life has made her, she flees to Tunis and begins again under a new identity. The promise of a clean break is short-lived. As the story unfolds, the new life she tries to build is steadily compromised when she becomes the main witness to a police blunder, turning survival into a fragile and anxious balancing act. AÏCHA focuses on identity, survival and the search for a way out. Aya's move under a new identity makes clear how fragile reinvention can be when it depends on silence, distance and luck. The accident does not simply end one chapter; it forces her to confront the consequences of being the only witness to what follows, and the story keeps asking how far a person can go to escape a life that feels fixed. The film was presented at several major festivals, including Venice, the BFI London Film Festival, Seville, Goa, Red Sea, Rio and Mar del Plata. It received the Best Mediterranean Film prize at Venice, the SIGNIS Award for Best International Film at Mar del Plata and Best Feature Film at Durban.
