THE LOVE THAT REMAINS follows a year in the life of Anna, an artist, Magnús, a fisherman, and their three children in Iceland. The parents have separated, but family life continues through shared routines, work, play and the changing seasons. As Magnús struggles with his growing distance from the family, the bonds between them are gradually put to the test. Hlynur Pálmason (Godland, A White, White Day) combines intimate everyday moments with deadpan humour and unexpected surreal touches. Against the Icelandic landscape, separation becomes less a clean break than a slow transformation of affection, memory and family life. THE LOVE THAT REMAINS premiered in Cannes Première at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival. Tender, playful and melancholic, Pálmason's tragicomedy observes what remains between people when a relationship has changed but their shared life cannot simply be left behind.
