Ethan Hawke

Born in 1970 in Austin, Texas, Ethan Hawke is an American actor, director, and author. He had his breakthrough as a performer in the 1989 film *Dead Poets Society* and solidified his career with movies like *Gattaca* (1997). He received special recognition for the *Before* trilogy, earning Academy Award nominations alongside his collaborators for the screenplays of *Before Sunset* (2004) and *Before Midnight* (2013). Further Oscar nominations for his acting performances followed for *Training Day* (2001) and *Boyhood* (2014). In addition to his work in front of the camera, Hawke is also active as a filmmaker, with credits including the documentary series *The Last Movie Stars* (2022).
