ActorDirector
Harmony Korine is an American filmmaker, screenwriter, and actor known for his unconventional and controversial style. He first gained prominence by writing the screenplay for the 1995 film *Kids*, directed by Larry Clark. Korine made his directorial debut with *Gummo* in 1997, a film that explores the lives of people in Xenia, Ohio, after a tornado. This was followed by *Julien Donkey-Boy* (1999), which was inspired by Korine's schizophrenic uncle and was created under the Dogme 95 movement. In 2007, he directed *Mister Lonely*, a film about a Michael Jackson impersonator who discovers a commune for impersonators. Korine achieved significant attention with *Spring Breakers* in 2012, a film that blends crime, drama, and surrealism, starring James Franco, Selena Gomez, and Vanessa Hudgens. The film received mixed reviews but developed a cult following and further solidified Korine's reputation in indie cinema. More recently, he directed *The Beach Bum* (2019), a stoner comedy featuring Matthew McConaughey. While Korine's films often receive polarized responses due to their experimental and provocative nature, his work remains influential in the realm of independent filmmaking. He has not received major awards but is considered a significant figure in underground and avant-garde cinema.
