María Rodríguez Soto, born in Barcelona in 1986, has established herself as an outstanding actress in Spanish cinema in recent years. After studying at the drama school in her hometown, she first made a name for herself in theater productions before gaining international attention with feature films. An important step was her leading role in THE DAYS TO COME (2019, directed by Carlos Marques-Marcet). The film follows a young couple through a real pregnancy and combines documentary elements with feature film. For her powerful performance, Rodríguez Soto was awarded the 2020 Gaudí Award for Best Actress, one of the most important prizes in Catalan cinema. In 2024, she took on the lead role in MAMÍFERA, directed by Liliana Torres. In it, she plays Lola, who is confronted with an unplanned pregnancy and tries to find her own way between social expectations and personal decisions. The film was presented in the Panorama section of the Berlinale and screened at international festivals such as the SXSW Festival in the USA. She received further awards for her performance, including the Best Actress Award at the Lost Weekend Film Festival.
