Yuriy (Yura) Alexandrovich Borisov (born December 8, 1992, in Reutov, Russia) is a Russian actor who has quickly established himself as one of the most important performers in modern Russian cinema. He studied at the Shchukin Theater School in Moscow and gained stage experience before turning to film. He made his international breakthrough with the road movie Compartment No. 6 (2021, directed by Juho Kuosmanen), which won the Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival. He played another central role in the drama CAPTAIN VOLKONOGOV ESCAPED (2021, directed by Natalya Merkulova and Aleksey Chupov), in which he plays the title character: a Soviet officer on the run from his past. The film premiered at the Venice International Film Festival and introduced Borisov to an international audience. His other well-known films include The Bull (2019, directed by Boris Akopov), for which he received an award at the Kinotavr Festival, and AK-47 (2020, directed by Konstantin Buslov), in which he played the lead role of Mikhail Kalashnikov. In 2025, he gained international attention for his role in the American film Anora (directed by Sean Baker), which was nominated for an Oscar for Best Picture. Borisov has received numerous honors: in 2020, he won the Russian Golden Eagle Award for Best Actor, in 2022 he was awarded the White Elephant Prize, and he is now considered one of the most important young actors in Europe.
