My Brother, My Love

Glaubenberg

Directed by Thomas Imbach

Trailer

Lena (16) is in love with her brother and would rather indulge in this fantasy than face reality.

Synopsis

Lena (16) feels more attracted to her brother Noah than is usual between siblings. She tries to distract herself with Noah's friend Enis. But the impossible love becomes an obsession. She loses herself in daydreams and soon lives more in her imagination than in the real world. Finally, she plucks up the courage to confess her love to her brother. But he rejects her in shock. For Lena, a journey into the unknown begins. In his film MY BROTHER, MY LOVE, director Thomas Imbach deals with a deeply personal topic. The film is inspired by Imbach's own biography, but is heavily fictionalized. It deals with a love that is taboo in our society—a sister's longing for her brother, which can only be lived as a delusion. Imbach focuses on adolescence, when this passion first seeks fulfillment and has a thoroughly “healthy” origin. The film premiered at the Locarno Film Festival in 2018 and received the Zurich Film Award. It has also been shown at international festivals such as the Solothurn Film Festival, the International Film Festival Hof, and the Haifa International Film Festival.
