Denis Patar is a loving but overwhelmed single father of two daughters. After another failure, he is assigned an employee of the Youth Welfare Office.
Denis juggles two jobs, two daughters and a chaotic daily routine that leaves little room to breathe. Since his wife's death, he has kept the family afloat with a lot of improvisation – but the balance is precarious. When he forgets to pick up his younger daughter Mercredi from school one day, dedicated social worker Séverine is called in. With her optimistic but unyielding view of family life, she puts Denis's parenting methods to the test.
As Denis tries to convince the youth welfare office of his competence as a single father, an unusual dynamic develops between him, his daughters and the persistent Séverine. But can a family survive if it does not adhere to traditional norms?
THE FABULOUS PATARS combines warm humor with a sensitive examination of parenting, responsibility and the balancing act between care and self-fulfillment. Sophie Reine directs with a keen sense for the small but significant moments of everyday life. The film won the Prix du Jury at the Festival du Film Francophone d'Angoulême and was successfully screened at several international festivals.
