Working as a maid in Germany, Luz finds herself caught up in a system of dependency, fear, and violence.
Working as a maid in Germany, Luz finds herself caught up in a system of dependency, fear, and violence.
Young Colombian Luz hopes for a better life when she takes a job as a maid for a diplomatic couple in Germany. Full of anticipation for a secure position and the opportunity to support her family in Bogotá, she begins her new life. But soon the perfect façade of her new environment begins to crumble.
At first, she is rejected by the older housekeeper Alba, but a crisis they experience together brings the two women closer. When Alba suddenly disappears the next morning, Luz begins to look behind the scenes of the magnificent house. The marriage of the owners of the house begins to show cracks, and the atmosphere becomes increasingly threatening. Without realizing it, Luz becomes caught up in a dangerous dynamic of power, dependence, and silence.
The film LUZ by Jasmin Lord is based on real events and uses fiction to explore how legal immunity in diplomatic households can become a shield for violence and exploitation. With the suspenseful dramaturgy of a psychological thriller, the project raises awareness of structural inequalities that often remain hidden. The creeping threat to which Luz is exposed is exemplary of the fate of many invisible workers who are trapped in a system of powerlessness.
