Flurry Clouds

A renowned performer of traditional courtyard theater - known as Sumang Lila - talks about past love relationships and questions society's acceptance of transgender people. The film combines documentary passages with staged sequences and reflects on gender roles and artistic representation. The film focuses on the role of Nupi Sabi artists, who are admired as stage characters, but often face exclusion in everyday life. FLURRY CLOUDS has won several awards: At the 14th Manipur State Film Awards 2022, the film received awards for Best Director, Best Performance by a Transgender Person, and Best Editing. In addition, it was awarded a special jury prize at the 5th Sailendhar North East India Film Awards 2022. The film has also been shown at festivals, including the Kashish International Film Festival in Mumbai in 2023, the North East Film Festival Mumbai in 2022, and the 18th International Film Festival of Thrissur in the same year. Thematically, the work navigates the intersection of queer identity, traditional theater forms, and social recognition. The narrative focuses on marginalized voices in Indian culture and is clearly anchored in the context of LGBTQ cinema.
