Fiona Clark: Unafraid

In the 1970s, a young photographer caused a stir with her pictures of the queer scene in Auckland. Her work was censored, exhibitions were closed, and she herself faced social rejection. Despite this opposition, she continued her work, documenting marginalized communities and fighting for visibility and equality. A serious accident changed her life, but she remained true to her mission and became one of New Zealand's most important social documentary photographers. FIONA CLARK: UNAFRAID traces the life of this extraordinary artist. The film offers a deep insight into her work, her challenges, and her tireless commitment to social justice. It shows how she lives and works in a converted milk processing plant, maintains her archives, and remains active. The documentary highlights not only her photographs, but also her collaboration with indigenous communities and her commitment to environmental issues. The film has been screened at several international festivals, including the Whānau Mārama: New Zealand International Film Festival 2021, the Inside Out 2SLGBTQ+ Film Festival in Toronto 2022, and the Wicked Queer: The Boston LGBTQ+ Film Festival 2023. It was also presented as part of Cannes Docs-in-Progress 2020.
