Theo (Ilja Nikolai Stahl) has left his life in Germany behind and traveled to Thailand without his daughter to prove his skills as a journalist and report on a secret rebel group. When he's not working, he spends time with his friend Mawar (Sabree Matming), who dreams of a future in Germany. This painfully reminds Theo of his abandoned daughter. He decides to fly back and publish his article without having had contact with the rebels. He finds himself in a moral downward spiral. GOOD NEWS by Hannes Schilling is an intense feature film debut that stands out for its formal rigor and powerful performances. Produced by Jost Hering Filme, the film impresses with its clear visual language and precise dramaturgy. Topics such as responsibility, truth, and manipulation are told with a force that leaves no audience member unmoved. GOOD NEWS premiered in 2024 in competition at the Max Ophüls Prize film festival, where it won the award for socially relevant film. Other festival stops included the Lichter Filmfest Frankfurt International and numerous arthouse cinema screenings, underscoring the great interest in this work.
