BECOMING ANIMAL is a documentary essay on sensory ecology, following David Abram as he urges a deeper, political bond with nature and the future.
Synopsis
BECOMING ANIMAL follows David Abram into the natural settings that animate his thinking. Buffalos, ravens, hot springs and dense forests become part of a filmic encounter in which observation, wonder and bodily presence meet under the title BECOMING ANIMAL.
Emma Davie and Peter Mettler turn Abram's reflections into a flowing audiovisual experience. His ideas are not presented as detached theory but as a lived conversation with landscape, movement and the many traces that connect the present to deeper histories.
At the heart of BECOMING ANIMAL lies an appeal for conscious perception. Abram argues for a view of the world in which human standards are not the only measure, linking sensitivity to the living body with ecological and political responsibility.
The film draws on Abram's widely read environmental writing and his philosophical work on the sensed world, and it was presented at Bildrausch in Basel. BECOMING ANIMAL is a contemplative invitation to listen more closely, look more slowly and reconsider our place among other forms of life.
