Pornomelancolía

PORNOMELANCOLÍA follows Lalo, a young gay sex worker and online performer living in Mexico City. Through social media, webcam performances and erotic content, he presents a carefully constructed version of himself to thousands of followers. His digital persona appears confident, seductive and permanently available. Away from the screen, however, Lalo drifts through a far more fragile reality. Encounters with clients, friends and strangers reveal moments of distance, exhaustion and emotional alienation beneath the surface of constant visibility. The city around him becomes a landscape of fleeting intimacy, economic precarity and quiet isolation. Blurring the boundaries between documentary observation and fiction, the film follows Lalo through performances both online and offline. The more he turns himself into an image for others, the more questions emerge about identity, desire and the emotional consequences of permanent self-exposure in digital spaces. Directed by Manuel Abramovich, PORNOMELANCOLÍA premiered in the Official Selection of the San Sebastián Film Festival 2022, where it received the Jury Prize for Best Cinematography. It later screened at festivals including Zurich, Thessaloniki, IDFA, Filmfest München and Karlovy Vary. At the Festival International du Film Indépendant de Bordeaux (FIFIB), the film won the Grand Prize in the International Competition. Combining documentary observation with fictional performance, PORNOMELANCOLÍA explores contemporary forms of sexuality, labor and loneliness in the digital age with precision and restraint.
