For this film, he was awarded the David di Donatello for Best New Director, laying the groundwork for a successful trilogy that concluded in 2017. He achieved international recognition with the Netflix film *Rose Island* (2020), for which the screenplay also won a David di Donatello. His work is characterized by a focus on stories that are true or inspired by true events, a theme also present in his film *Mixed by Erry* (2023).
