Venci Kostov

Director
Born in 1991 in Varna, Bulgaria, filmmaker Venci Kostov first studied directing at the National Academy for Theatre and Film Arts in Sofia before completing his master's degree at the Babelsberg Konrad Wolf Film University. His medium-length feature film “Thin Ice” (“Auf dünnem Eis”, 2022) was screened in competition at the Max Ophüls Preis Film Festival in 2023, among others. For this work, cinematographer Martin Paret received a nomination for the Michael Ballhaus Prize at the 2022 First Steps Awards. Kostov's earlier works include the short film “My Little German Everyday Fear” (2019).
