Guillaume Nicloux

Guillaume Nicloux is a French director, screenwriter, and actor who has been one of the defining voices of European auteur cinema since the 1990s. His films are characterized by psychological depth, subtle irony, and a clear visual language that often oscillates between reality, fiction, and philosophical reflection. In BEING BLANCHE HOUELLEBECQ (2024, directed by Guillaume Nicloux), he brings together Michel Houellebecq and Blanche Gardin in a cinematic meta-narrative that focuses on the interplay between identity, public life, and intimacy. The film was produced by BAC Films and has been shown at international festivals. With precise direction and a flair for ambivalent characters, Nicloux adds another reflection on the boundaries between life and art to his work. Among his best-known works is The Kidnapping of Michel Houellebecq (2014), which premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival and depicts Houellebecq as a fictional kidnapped version of himself. The film brought Nicloux a great deal of attention and is considered the starting point of a loose trilogy on art and self-staging, which continued with “Thalasso” (2019). In both films, Nicloux combines documentary observation with absurd humor and social analysis. He had already gained international recognition with works such as “La religieuse” (2013). The adaptation of Denis Diderot's novel was shown in competition at the Berlinale and received several César nominations. Valley of Love (2015), starring Isabelle Huppert and Gérard Depardieu, also attracted worldwide attention and premiered at Cannes. Nicloux's cinematic work has received numerous awards, including the Prix Jean Vigo and the César for Best Adapted Screenplay.
